About

Survivor Crop is the brainchild of John Akin, co-founder of Ever After Scrapbooks. John’s desire was to host an event that had a meaningful and lasting impact on the community in which Ever After serves. Started in 2001, John modeled Survivor Crop after his favorite television show at the time, Survivor Island. His goal was to have teams competing in a tribal fashion, each with their own unique flair and personality, yet each with a shared passion of a charitable cause. Our first year, after learning one of our customers had been diagnosed with MS, all funds raised from the event went to support the MS Foundation and were in honor and celebration of our friend.

From 2002 to current, Survivor Crop has benefited the San Diego Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. It has become the second largest fundraiser for San Diego’s Affiliate, next to Race for the Cure. We like to call our event the little engine that could. With the help of countless dedicated women, including a phenomenal committee and leadership team over the years, the event has grown from raising $8,000 the first year to nearly $400,000 in the nine years Ever After has hosted the event. John’s other half, Camille Akin, and co-founder of Ever After, likes to call Survivor Crop “the most unique fundraising event on the planet. We have many people who have come to the event in one way or another and been greatly impacted by its fun, flavor and passion.”

The event honors breast cancer survivors each year and the Survivor Crop volunteer committee is proud to be a part of an event that helps save lives. Awareness, early detection, and the vital funds to help beat the disease are key components to what Survivor Crop is all about. San Diego Komen personnel, event goers and Ever After staff enjoy the camaraderie of Survivor Crop and what the scrapbooking community can do when it puts its collective mind together.

The 10-Year Anniversary Survivor Crop committee is comprised of Ever After customers who have been touched in some way by this disease. Your 2011 Committee members are: John and Camille Akin, Ronnie Dana, Janell Hull, Elizabeth Williams, Regina Hunter, Tasha Hunter, Deborah Cocking, and Erin Payne. Join us for an event like no other…we promise no blisters on your feet, but you will be touched by the survival stories as you Survive 24 Hours So Others Can Survive.

The 10th Annual Survivor Crop is October 15-16, 2011. The event begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday and ends at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
