Start your morning off at Ever After Scrapbooks! The store will open at 8:00 a.m. to kick off the event with a light breakfast, scavenger hunt, prizes and shopping. You can also place your orders with our Album Engraver during this time and she will deliver your completed album covers to the event site later in the day. What Time Can I Arrive at the Big Survivor Island?

Check-in at the event site will begin at 10:30 a.m. Your check in time is based on the time you arrive at Ever After for your Adventure Pass. Our volunteers will greet and assist you as you unload your scrap stash to the event site (aka: Survivor Island). We’ll have plenty of helpers to get you to your island. Your event information and T-shirt will be at your island already waiting for you. Use this time before the official noon kickoff to get acquainted with your island members, meet your island hostess, help decorate and settle in. We will officially kick off the event at 12:00 noon.

What Is an Island Hostess?

Prior to the event your island hostess will help to make sure that you have all the information that you need to come to the event fully prepared. If there is any information we need to get out to you quickly, they act as our primary contact and then will contact you by phone or e-mail. At the event the island hostess oversees your island of tables to make sure everyone on the island is having a good time at the event. The hostess coordinates, his/her group during games, classes, make-n-takes, and other activities. If you have any questions during the event, your hostess is the first person to go to. There are several nice perks for serving as an island hostess including an island hostess brunch with Komen in August. For more information on becoming an island hostess, please email Deborah Cocking.

What Hours will Ever After Remain Open for Purchasing Supplies?

Ever After will stay open through the entire event and into Sunday. The Think Pink Silent Auction bidding starts at Ever After on Tuesday, October 11th

Why Make Survivor Crop a Charitable Event?

We believe this event provides us a unique opportunity to help raise awareness and funds for a worthy cause. First, it helps us raise awareness for the importance of early detection of breast cancer and the importance of routine monthly self-examinations. Second, it allows us to raise a substantial amount of funds to benefit our local affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure for breast cancer awareness and research. Most of us know of a woman or man, who has battled this disease. Over the last eight years we have raised over $400,000.00 for charities. As of last year’s event, Survivor Crop has become the second largest fundraiser in dollars raised for breast cancer awareness for the Komen Foundation next to its Race for the Cure.

Why Must I raise a Minimum of $125 in Donations?

During the first two years of Survivor Crop, we did not require a minimum donation amount and found that only about 5% of the participants collected any donations at all. We knew we needed to find away to increase awareness with the participants that this was a charity event and something unique. To accomplish this, we set a small minimum donation of $100. We looked with a much higher amount, for the 3-day walk, the minimum amount that is due to participate is over $2,000.00. We knew there was no way we could ask that and finally agreed that a minimum donation of $125 with added incentives to collect more than the minimum was the way to go.  This is in sync with Komen’s 125 Challenge. It costs $125 to cover one underinsured or uninsured San Diegan’s mammogram. Just think if 200 participants raise $500, that’s $100,000! Please see the exciting details of the$1000 Club, new this year on the Registration page.

So each participant is required to turn in a minimum of $125 in donations at check in for the San Diego Affiliate of Komen for the Cure. Although we set a minimum amount due for donations, it is our hope that you will want to raise more than the minimum amount. This year we again are using award levels for donations collected, the more donations you collect, the more incentives we are awarding. We understand the time that it takes to collect these donations and want to reward those who go out there and collect above the minimum donations required.

  • $125 minimum donation (requirement to participate)= Survivor Crop Tote Bag filled with logo t-shirt and insulated “Starbucks-Style” cup
  • $500 donation = All Day 12 Hour Crop in December 2011
  • $1,000 donation = Survivor Crop Commemorative Album
  • $1,500 donation = Deluxe Survivor Crop Scrap Pack
  • $2,000 donation=$25 gift card to Ever After and surprise gift from Sony
  • $2,500+ in donations = $100 gift card to Ever After
  • The Ultimate Island (see below)= Each team member will receive a Sony Cybershot camera

Do I Collect Checks or Cash?

Checks should be made payable to SGKBCF. These donations are fully tax-deductible. A canceled check acts as the tax receipt. If you are given cash, please collect it accordingly, and write one check for the amount. Sorry, we cannot give receipts for cash donations. Remember, the more donations you collect, the more chances you will have to become the Ultimate Survivor and the Ultimate Island.

VERY IMPORTANT: PLEASE DO NOT SEND CHECKS OR BRING CHECKS TO EVER AFTER SCRAPBOOKS THAT ARE ADDRESSED TO KOMEN UNTIL THE DAY OF THE EVENT. However, if you have individuals who have written checks months in advance and don’t want you to hold on to the check, you may submit them directly to:

San Diego Affiliate of Komen for the Cure
4699 Murphy Canyon Road, Suite #207
San Diego, CA 92123

Creating a Komen Participant Fundraising Page

As a participant, you DO need to create a participant page EVEN IF you DO NOT want to participate in the online donation process. This is how your check donations will be documented/tallied for you for the purposes of counting towards the Ultimate Survivor and/or Ultimate Surviving Island. You may send a confirmation email to Camille Akin at info@survivorcrop.com when checks are sent to Komen so that we can then make sure you have been credited in our database. This will act as a check and balance on what you are collecting and sending to Komen.

How does the amount of donations I collect affect my participation in Survivor Crop?

First, in order to be eligible for any of the donation incentives you must turn in at the beginning of the event your must turn in at least the minimum of $125 in donations. The Ultimate Survivor is based on the single person who brings in the most in donations. Second, the amount you turn in will be combined with the rest of the donations your island mates have collected and will help determine which island is the Ultimate Island and the order in which you will collect your final donation incentive! The more donations your island has collected the better the final incentive will be.

How does the amount that the Ultimate Survivor and the Ultimate Island raise differ?

The Ultimate Survivor is the person who individually raises the most funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The ultimate island is the team of individuals that has the highest average of donations per person at the island. For example, 10 participants, 5 raise $100, 5 raise $500= total of $3125 raised. $3125/10 participants=$312.50 average. NOTE: To be fair and make sure it is truly a team effort and not a reward based on the merit of one individual, the Island with the Ultimate Survivor will be calculated using the donations of the island LESS those of the Ultimate Survivor.

How Are the Team (islands) Formed?

We call an island a team of twelve tribe members. At registration you choose the island on which you want to participate, so make sure you and your friends sign up together or/on or around the same time. In order not to be bumped from your island of choice, you must pay in full by August 1st, 2011. Please select your island when you register. If you want to participate with friends or family, make sure they sign up on the same island to ensure you get to sit together. Note: As we get closer to the event, we may suggest merging islands to even out the teams. Important: Remember to encourage your friends and family to sign up early so fundraising can begin and you can fill 12 to the team!

What does the Ultimate Survivor receive?

The Ultimate Survivor nomally receives a Survivor Crop Scrap Pack that is valued at over $500.00. Last year the Ultimate Survivor was awarded a Sony Flat Screen TV valued at $1,200! The runner up Ultimate Survivor received a Sony laptop! Yes, we usually reward the person who raises nearly as much as the Ultimate Survivor…we call this person, the runner up Ultimate Survivor!

How Can I Start Fundraising?

We have made fundraising really easy with our new online donation option. This is the same function that Race for the Cure participants use when they are trying to raise twenty times the amount! Komen has done most of the work for you with pre-written letters and reminder notes. Simply log on to their site and use this option. It’s easy and there are step-by-step instructions on our site. If you need help, stop by Ever After and we will help you set up your own personal participant page. If we could raise on average $60,000 a year without online capability, just think of the possibilities with the online donation option! It’s as simple as a click of the mouse in the comfort of your home.
